BRIGHTON - Organizers of an upcoming conference in Brighton are hoping to draw hundreds of Catholic men together to bolster their faith.
"Accept the Challenge" will take place from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 711 Rickett Road, Brighton. So far, 600 men have already signed up for the conference, which will feature four guest speakers.
"The whole purpose of this type of thing is to bring men together so we can ignite their faith and just reawaken them spiritually," said Ron Garrison, who sits on the conference's executive committee.
Guest speakers include the Rev. Larry Richards, from the Diocese of Erie (Penn.), who will touch on the importance of confession and men being the spiritual leaders of their families; Robert Rogers, whose wife and four children were killed in a flash flood in Kansas; Peter Herbeck, who will discuss evangelism; and the Rev. Joe Krupp, who will meet with youth at the conference to discuss what moving into manhood means.
"What we need most now is for members of the church to have a fresh encounter with the living Jesus Christ and to activate their own faith, and these conferences can activate that faith," said Herbeck, a vice president and director of missions at Ann Arbor-based Renewal Ministries.
